In this class students will broaden their experience with a range of Latin authors in verse and prose, spanning the period from Plautus to the Augustan age. All readings will be drawn from the PhD list. The expected pace is 1000 lines of poetry/30 pages of prose per week, though you can consult with me and/or the Grad Advisor to see about doing the course at half that pace. In addition to improving the students' skill and comfort with reading different kinds of Latin, the class will also inquire into how these specific texts help us understand the development of Latin literature over this formative period.
