Course Description: 

In this class we will describe the production of Athenian pottery : their discovery and interpretation. Starting from the potter’s workshop, we will move to the different contexts of these pots : Athens, Greece and the Mediterranean world, form houses to tombs and sanctuaries.

We will after that have a look at the visual repertory displayed on these pots, and the way vase-painters interpret their own world. Rituals moments, or daily activities ; gendered images, as well as mythological.
