Course Description: 

Greek vase-painting : hermeneutics and historiography

This seminar explores the history of discovery and interprtation of Greek vases, from the XVIIIth century to the present times. Each seminar will discuss 1) one specific book and approach as well as 2) one ‘exemplary’ vase, taken from the book under discussion and examined in terms of both ancient and modern hermeneutics.
