Fulfills the L&S breadth requirement in Arts & Literature and Historical Studies.
The course is an introduction to the language, style, and reception of Herodotus’ engaging Histories. Emphasis will be given to the Egyptian logos, which will be scrutinized for its function in the work as whole and for the construction of Greek and Egyptian identities.
Prerequisites: Greek 100 and either 101, 102, or 105.
Written requirements: 2 quizzes, final exam, research paper. Principal text will be supplied by the instructor.
