While we are no longer seeking a lecturer for Spring 2018, the lecturer pool is now open for those who would like to be considered for a possible future position.

DESCRIPTION
The Department of Classics at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach sections of our lower division lecture courses (one of these is Reading and Composition) and/or one or more lower and upper division courses in Classics, Latin, or Greek. The pool will remain in place for one calendar year; screening of applications is ongoing and continues as needed. The need varies in each teaching term, and the percentage of a lecturer appointment ranges from 18% to 100% time. Appointments may be renewed based on need, funding, and performance.

Responsibilities may include (but are not limited to): teaching one or more sections of a lecture course (or courses) and attending all lectures; advising students and holding regular office hours; assigning grades; preparing course materials; and maintaining a course website. Generally, independent courses meet for a total of 3-4 hours per week; each section of lecture courses meets for a total of 2 hours per week (lecture attendance adds 3-4 hours).

Minimum Basic Qualifications (by the time of application): M.A. or equivalent degree in Classics or a related field.

Additional Qualifications (by start date): For R&C courses and for Greek and Latin, a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Classics or a related field is required. For Reading & Composition courses, experience teaching college composition is required.

Preferred Qualifications (by start date): Relevant college-level teaching experience.

Salary: Salary is commensurate with teaching experience. The starting minimum full-time equivalent salary is $53,402 in accordance with the current American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Unit 18 Lecturer salary scale and its provisions.
